New Delhi: The Governor of Uttar Pradesh has ordered action on the brutalities of the police against Muslims during the communal riot in Moradabad in February 2011. Governor BL Joshi has asked state Home Secretary to take full action on the alleged one-sided action of the police against the minority community.
Acting on the detailed letter by Dr Lenin Raghuvanshi, Executive Director, People's Vigilance Committee for Human Rights (PVCHR), about the atrocities on and one-sided arrest of members of the Muslim community, the Governor, in his letter dated 24th May 2011 asked Principal Secretary, Home, to look into the issue and take full action.
"Please look into the letter addressed to Governor by Dr Lenin Raghuvanshi, of PVCHR dated 9th May 2011 related to police atrocities on Muslims and one-sided action in Sahaspur, Moradabad," wrote Governor's secretary.
In February this year, communal clashes had erupted in Sahaspur area of Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh when a procession of Eid Miladun Nabi was passing through. Rather than controlling the clashes the security forces and infamous PAC unleashed a reign of terror on local Muslims – they were beaten, their homes looted and hundreds of them were made named accused for the rioting.
PVCHR sent a fact-finding team to the affected area the team came out with the stories of shameful khaki terror and brutality.
